were i dim i’d know a love like you,
a bitter rock i’m forced to chew.
i’d break my teeth and swallow bone.
my marrow’d harden- a shadowed stone.
and deep beneath my crumbling skin’d
sit rotting veins- both dried and thin.
i’d wither ‘neath her willow tree-
snapped and smacked but loved by thee.
blind to pleasure and to joy
just to be your trophy boy.
i bury cars
many short lived fixtures
i saw a piece of
wood on the side of the road.
i stopped. i grabbed it.
twins who’ve never met
siamese at the gut
brittle little pet
clawing knees of a mutt
twenty-four years
no single stony sleep
fold deep in fear
he was not home with me
decade near passed
your stone burns cold near home
i can’t be assed
to memorize your bones
sweet boy hold tight
don’t forget lessons learned
great lord just might
fail you ‘n’ send you’t’ burn

a dirt faced mother, locally known for being a homeless forager to feed her 3 children [the infant being a small grey and black stripped cat]. i spent time with her watching how she found fruits- some old, some new and plentiful. they lived in a small deflated pool filled with brown water [probably due to the fact that the children wore diapers that were probably never changed]. the pool was set in the center of what used to be a small red shack that now looked more like ¾ of a fence with no pieces of wood matching in size. she could only leave for seconds at a time to insure her children would not drown in the murky liquid. the kitten always lie submerged with just the tip on his nose resting on a pile of dried palm leaves and hay. the two toddlers failed to grab my attention. the eldest having a long forehead and no hair, he was the color of creamed coffee. the other might have been a tanned [or dirty] female with reddish curly hair. the mother stashed her fruits on impressed rectangles made in soggy beds of grass, some filled halfway with water. there were green apples and bananas which she set in a clearing near a tree. she held what looked to be 3-4 dozen ripened bananas laughing at the careless family who threw them out. she set them in an empty rectangle and covered them with hay. she started sprinting back to her home- i followed close and saw her snatch something from the earth and upon returning feeding her findings to her eldest son. i claimed to need a hat and ran home.
i got bored so i decided to breathe[…]
[…]now i- a new man- a woman!
curious of my new mouth
and what is does in darkness,
my hands-
i hope they turn the way of my mother,
my breasts-
finally my own and wonderfully careless,
and my mouth-
let her smile- for i’ve found great reasons
and now, no need to breathe.
